Vitamin B-12 is a vitamin the body uses to make and support healthy nerve cells. It is also used to make healthy red blood cells and the genetic material inside cells, DNA.
People who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet can sometimes have low levels, because plant foods do not contain vitamin B-12.
The aging effects on digestive function commonly lead to a thinning of the intestinal lining. Since intrinsic factor is required for vitamin B-12 absorption, B-12 deficiency is common in the elderly population. The addition of intrinsic factor in this product supports the absorption of B-12.
